I Beat The 27 Club

I recently turned 28, which is an accomplishment of sorts because I’m still alive. If you were unaware, The 27 Club is an assortment of musicians and artists who unexpectedly died at age 27. They include:

  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Janis Joplin
  • Jim Morrison
  • Kurt Cobain
  • Amy Winehouse
  • and more

In all, there are over 60 members of The 27 Club. And they all accomplished way more than I probably ever will. But at the same time, making it this far in life is an accomplishment in itself.

But comparatively, I haven’t accomplished much, especially to everyone else who has lived beyond 27 that wasn’t famous. It all goes back to the struggle I’ve had comparing myself to everyone else. Sure I’ve published 5 books, but so many more people seem so far ahead of me at 28. For example, here’s a list of things I haven’t experienced so far that many people have:

  • Own a home (working on it)
  • Married
  • Has children
  • Has a pet
  • Traveled out of the country
  • Been on a cruise
  • Had an STD scare (not really on my bucket list)
  • Broken a bone
  • Dated an Asian girl

But for every 5 people I meet who have accomplished more than I have at the same age, there’s still one guy who’s older than me who still gives me hope that I’ll get there. And that’s really all I can live on these days – hope.
